About Us
Thanks for stopping by!
The University of Northern Iowa Center for Energy and Environmental Education (CEEE) and the UNI Local Food Program partner with local organizations working to alleviate food insecurity in underserved populations in Iowa. To accomplish this challenging task, CEEE relies on the skills and expertise of passionate AmeriCorps volunteers. Our volunteers work across various organizations throughout eastern Iowa and often find ways to collaborate!

Benefits of Local Foods
We work with various partners in conjunction with UNI's Local Food Program to increase our communities' access to fresh, seasonal foods while supporting our local producers
More nutrient-dense & tastier
Local foods may have more nutrients when picked at their peak and taken to market directly after harvest.
Build a sense of community
Community gardens are spaces to build social connections in addition to providing delicious food.
Help the environment & wildlife
Well-managed farms help conserve soil and protect water resources while providing habitat for wildlife
Supports local families
Buying directly from local farmers cuts out the middleman and gets them the full retail price for their food they need to stay in business
